TOURIST PLACES IN MUNNAR
Munnar is a most famous hill station of South India with around 12000 hectares land under tea plantations. This irresistible destination brings alive the dream of breathing in fresh air redolent with the aroma of tea leaves, seeing nature's exemplary creations, watching rare and common animals and most of all lazing around the hills doing absolutely nothing.

Tea Museum & Processing Unit :
Munnar earned its fame as a top tourist destination due to the amazing tea plantations thus it is quiet obvious that a Tea Museum in Munnar attracts a whole lot visitors. The prestigious Tata Tea runs the Tea Museum that takes the visitors back into the time when tea industry had just begun to make its presence felt in Munnar in the early 1880s. Interesting relics and artifacts from the bygone era are kept on display. Also, there is a tea processing unit located nearby which gives you a detailed knowledge of how tea is processed.

Pothanmedu :
Pothanmedu located comfortably on a high cliff is just 3 km before Munnar while you are travelling on NH 49. It is an ideal destination to enjoy the spectacular beauty of the tea, coffee, and cardamom plantations. The winding road along is a wonderful sight from the top of the cliff. Pothanmedu offers excellent opportunities for trekking and hiking for adventure lovers.

Pallivasal :
Pallivasal has earned its fame after it became the venue for the first Hydro Electric Project in Kerala. It is situated at a distance of around 8 km from Munnar. It has been emerged as a prominent tourist destination as Munnar and it revels its immense beauty on every drop of nature.

Attukal :
Attukal is prominent for the Attukal falls located between the sites of Munnar and Pallivasal. The Attukal Falls usually presents a panoramic view but assumes a cascading and roaring beauty during the monsoons. This falls offers the most attractive scenes in a Munnar trip. Cheeyapara Falls and Valara Falls are two other waterfalls located nearby which also lure tourists by their bewitching beauty.

Devikulam :
Devikulam is a pastoral beauty sight located just 7 km from Munnar top. Devikulam experiences the same cool enchantic climate as if like Munnar which is extremely refreshing and is therefore a perfect spot to relax. The Sita Devi Lake located at Devikulam is a good picnic spot which attracts a large number of tourists and locals. The trout fishing in Sita Devi Lake offers a great opportunity for anglers.

Ervikulam National Park :
The Eravikulam park along with Rajamala is the precious habitat of the endangered Niligiri Tahr in Kerala. It covers an area of 97 sq km and was initially a hunting preserve of the British planters. The area became a Wildlife Sanctuary in the year 1975 and was designated as National Park in 1978. The park is open from 7 am to 5 pm and also offers some breathtaking views of its flora. The tahrs here are so used to the human beings that they do not shy away from even blocking the road.

Mattupetty :
Mattupetty located 13 km from Munnar is a well known tourist destination prominent for its cattle breeding farm, an artificial lake and a dam. The cattle farm rears more than 100 varieties of cattles, is a joint project of India and Switzerland. Tourists are allowed to visit only three sheds out of eleven and that also between 9 to 11 am and then from 2 to 3.30 pm. The magnificent dam is surrounded by hills and woods on all sides and presents a picturesque view. Mattupetty Lake offers a marvelous cruising in the waters for the most exciting experiences that you can enjoy here. Five seater speed boats and 20 seaters launches are available for cruise between 9.30 am to 5.30 pm
.
Echo Point :
Echo Point lies in the way to the Top Station of Munnar and it offers the pleasure of hearing the voice in echo again and again. The spot also offers splendid scenic beauty.

Marayoor :
The rain shadow Marayoor village has earned its fame because of the natural growth of sandalwood trees, relics from later Stone Age civilization and natural caves with murals. It is located around 40 km from Munnar top station. The sandalwood factory managed by the forest department as well as the children's park spread over an area of one hectare is the added features of Marayoor. The entire park is shaded by a single banyan tree. The neelakurunji flowers that blooms once in every 12 years is native to this place.

Nadukani :
Nadukani is a wonderful location situated atop a hill at the height of 3000 feet above the sea level. From the top hill scenic views of green hills, rushing streams, valley, and paddy fields can be enjoyed. The Moolamattam town and Malankara Lake also make for a pleasant view from here. The birds like hornbill, wild rabbits, spotted sambhar, and jungle mainah are seen in common.

Munnar, better known as the Kashmir of South India is the best place to visit in Kerala. If you are in Kerala and then you have to take some time out for this mesmeric dreamland which is the place in Kerala that has some magnificent hills and fascinating scenery.

Munnar attracts tourists from all over the world because of its exquisite natural beauty. Munnar is located in the state of Kerala and was the popular summer destinations of the British rulers.

It is a narrow stretch of land flanked on one side by the Arabian Sea and on the other side by the Western Ghat mountain ranges. Palm-fringed backwaters, scenic beaches, misty mountains, evergreen rain forests, gushing streams and waterfalls, all make this ancient spice capital of the world the most sought-after tourist destination. No wonder, the National Geographic Society chose Kerala as one of the 50 must-see destinations.

Climate of Munnar :
Munnar experiences a moderate climate all through the year. Summers (March to May) are pleasant and the temperature ranges a maximum of 25°C to minimum of 15°C. Winters during December to February are cool and temperature comes down to 10°C during this period. Monsoons (June to September) are lovely with pouring rainfalls.

Best time to visit here is all through the year especially from August to May. A visit to the tea garden during summers is enjoyable.

Driving up to Munnar can be adventurous, especially if you are driving. As you go up slowly through the narrow winding roads, you will see all the shades of green that God created. From the lush carpets of the tea bushes to the silver green of the oak it is all there on the mountains of Munnar.

If you are determined to reach Munnar in record time and you are traveling in a reasonably good car, it takes about 4 hrs from Kochi which is approximately 136 km away. The Ernakulam - Munnar route extends through Thripunithra, Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, Neriamangalam, Adimali and Pallivasal.

Private and government operated (KSRTC - Kerala State Road Transport Corporation) buses are available to various locations of Kerala. Buses are the cheapest form of transport to Munnar. Regular bus services to Tamil Nadu (towns like Theni, Kumbam, Madurai and Coimbatore) are operated by Tamil Nadu and Kerala Governments.

KSRTC has a bus station at the south of the town. Town bus stand is located in the modern new bazar.

Tourist Cars, Jeeps and Auto rikshaws available for getting around. Bicycles and bikes are also available for daily rent.

Munnar has 4 major roads:

Kochi road, Thekkady road, Top Station road, Marayoor road
