Gandhi Memorial
Gandhi Memorial is one of the main attractions in Kaynakumari. The Memorial was built in Independent India in 1956. It was built here in memory of Mahatma Gandhi who had visited Kanyakumaritwice in 1925 and 1937. The memorial is the place where the urn of our Father of the Nation kept for public viewing after shot dead in 1948. Later the ashes were immersed into the sea. The memorial is built with a large dome of 79 feet, a remembrance of the age of Mahatma Gandhi.
Vivekananda Rock
Vivekananda Rock Memorial was erected in the memory of Philosopher and Spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda in 1970. Vivekananda Rock Memorial committee constructed this monument on detached rocky islet at about 500 meters from the mainland. The rocky islet itself comprises of Vivekananda Mandapam and ShripadaMandapam. This monument reflects conventional style of Indian architecture. Serene and ambience surroundings of this place attracts thousands of visitors.
Thiruvalluvar Statue
Thiruvalluvar Statue is sculptured in memory and honor of great Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar who wrote Couplet Thirukural. The statue stands tall adjacent to Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial on a rocky islet. 95 feet skyscraping statue is erected on a 38 feet pedestal that represents the section of “virtue” in thirukural, which contains 38 chapters. The height of the whole structure is 133 feet, represents 133 chapters in Thirukural. It was opened on 1st of January 2000.This gigantic structure of Thiruvalluvardraws many tourists to Kanyakumari.
Govetment Museum
Government Museum in Kanyakumari is treasure house for antiques and artifact collections. It was built and opened for public in 1991. Since then the museum continues to displays many rare ancient collections. This museum is the best place to learn the ancient culture and history of South India. Some of the notable antiques displayed here are, ancient coins of east India, tribal objects, wood carvings, musical instruments, historic weapons, depiction of specimens related to natural history, whale bones and more.
